Enhancement at the forge
How gear enhancement works in Heroes MMO: Smith Brom, chances, Ring Shards, pity, dismantling and the trials at the level cap.
Smith Brom
Smith Brom stands next to the forge in the Village and upgrades weapons, armor and helmets up to +10. From level 6 he has a short quest that explains the forge and pays your first Ring Shards.
Stages and chances
- +1 to +5: gold only, always succeeds.
- +6: 80 percent, 2 Ring Shards per try.
- +7: 65 percent, 3 Ring Shards per try.
- +8: 50 percent, 4 Ring Shards per try.
- +9: 35 percent, 6 Ring Shards per try.
- +10: 25 percent, 8 Ring Shards per try.
Failure and pity
- A failed try costs that gold and those Ring Shards. The item and its level stay, nothing is ever destroyed or downgraded.
- Failures count per item and level. After 3 failures at +6 to +8, or 5 at +9 and +10, the next try is guaranteed.
What it costs
Every try costs gold, and the price follows the item level. A full +10 on a level 29 item takes about 690,000 gold and 57 Ring Shards on average, so it is a long-term goal.
Getting Ring Shards
Bosses drop Ring Shards with a 60 percent chance, up to 6 per hero per day, and stronger bosses drop more. The trials at the level cap pay them too.
Dismantling
Changing weapons? Dismantle the old one at Smith Brom. It returns to +0 and you get 50 percent of the Ring Shards spent on it back, but no gold.
The reward
Every level adds attack or armor. From +7 your weapon carries an orange swirl that every player can see, strongest at +10. Gems never change chances or stats.
Trials at the level cap
At level 30 Hermit Joren offers two boss trials a day, rotating through the old bosses. Each one pays 6,000 gold and 2 Ring Shards, with a 5 percent chance of a gem. Heroes get at most one such gem per day from bosses and trials together.
Spending gems
Merchant Mira sells a new hairstyle for 20 gems, a new hair color for 10 gems and titles from 25 to 60 gems. All of it is cosmetic.
