Best class in Heroes MMO: which one to pick
Which is the best class in Heroes MMO? All five compared with real game numbers for solo play, parties, ranged fights and new players.
The short answer
There is no single best class, and this page is not a tier list. The 5 classes differ in reach, speed, HP and class skill, so the right pick depends on how you like to play. New players do best with the Swordfighter, solo players with the Berserker or Lancer, parties get the most from a Mage, and players who like fast, risky fights enjoy the Rogue.
The numbers
- Swordfighter: 100 percent damage per hit, 100 percent attack speed, 100 percent HP, 12 percent critical chance, 1 armor, melee reach of about 2 tiles.
- Berserker: 145 percent damage per hit, 80 percent attack speed, 120 percent HP, 12 percent critical chance, 0 armor, melee reach of about 2 tiles.
- Rogue: 72 percent damage per hit, 140 percent attack speed, 90 percent HP, 24 percent critical chance, 0 armor, melee reach of about 1.5 tiles.
- Lancer: 95 percent damage per hit, 95 percent attack speed, 105 percent HP, 12 percent critical chance, 3 armor, melee reach of about 3 tiles.
- Mage: 90 percent damage per hit, 90 percent attack speed, 85 percent HP, 12 percent critical chance, 0 armor, ranged shots up to about 20 tiles.
How to read them
All values come from the game data, with the Swordfighter as the 100 percent baseline. Damage per hit times attack speed gives a rough value for steady damage: Swordfighter 100, Berserker 116, Rogue 101, Lancer 90 and Mage 81. That leaves out critical hits, class skills and positioning. Class skills cost 30 of your 100 mana and recharge in 5 seconds.
Best class for beginners: Swordfighter
The Swordfighter has no weak stat. Normal HP, 1 armor and Blade Whirl, which hits everything around you. Merchant Mira also sells 20 weapons for this class and 5 for each of the others, so your gold turns into upgrades more often.
Best classes for solo play: Berserker and Lancer
The Berserker has the highest steady damage and 120 percent HP, which forgives mistakes while you fight alone. Earthsplitter hits both sides of you. The price is a slow 80 percent attack speed. The Lancer is the calmer option: the longest melee reach, 3 armor, the best of all classes, and Impale, a long thrust through every enemy in front of you.
Best class for parties: Mage
Ring Wave damages enemies around you and heals you and nearby allies for 15 percent of their maximum HP. No other class can heal allies, so a Mage helps every party in a boss fight.
Best ranged class: Mage
The Mage is the only ranged class. Shots fly about 20 tiles, and if you click a monster they go straight to it, even down from a ledge. The cost is the lowest HP in the game at 85 percent and no base armor, so you need to keep your distance.
Best class for fast play: Rogue
The Rogue attacks at 140 percent speed with 24 percent critical chance, double the normal 12. Triple Stab fires three quick stabs forward. Reach is the shortest in the game and HP is only 90 percent, so you live by dashing, rolling and zipping out of trouble. Strong in good hands, hard for a first hero.
What matters later
- From level 15, after beating Kael, a trial quest unlocks the second form of your class: Blademaster, Rootbreaker, Shadowrunner, Grovewarden or Ringsage. It adds 5 percent attack, 5 percent HP and 25 percent skill damage.
- Each class has 9 talents in 3 rows with up to 5 points each. You can reset them for gold, so a wrong talent choice is cheap.
- You cannot change class, but you can make another hero. A second slot opens at account level 8, which is the sum of all your hero levels. New heroes skip the tutorial.
- Your highest hero of each class gives all your heroes a small account bonus: attack, HP, gold, armor or XP.
